Out Of The Head (2) (After Effects)

My own interoperation of the chosen words.

Words: Burst, Decay, Silence, Lies, Others

First story board starts with a man wakes up with the sound of bursting, war starts, ha start to flee, get to the sea, jump into the sea, face with difficulties like fighting with marine predators ( sharks & octopus). When he overtake the situation get to a safe place and stay in peace.

working with collaboration and developing story about flower and rock took me to the tragedy that is happening recently. People( flowers) are dying and buried in their own house(concrete) by the invasion of others, innocent people try to save their life by flee from this situation but the evil power make it harder and harder. Jane said be a DADA! play with the objects, see the possibilities, tear it down, magnified it and etc. I was trying to do so.

I chose a picture of rock place my character on top that shows a man is running and escaping from war, he is passing through the rocks ( difficulties, danger) to get to somewhere safe. After getting some feedback , I realised that the rock I chose was not match with this situation therefore I changed soft rock to hard one. I printed out some different pictures of hard rocks from the Internet, torn them up, made collage, changed the colours in photoshop, place them in different places. I traced my character with soft rock to give the man a texture and changed his colours to red and orange to show the fear and add the sound of heart beating to emphasises the situation.

It is a 20 second animation I could not show that the man is going through ROCKS, because I needed to show different places that he is traveling, therefore I keep him stuck in his house, he does not have enough time to survive, his house (concrete) demolished on him and he suffocated.

This is a collaborative project, a group of four, we should choose 6 words from lots of other words to generate an idea and make a 20 second story with the clear beginning, middle and end. considering story structure with climax or tension. Pay attention to the tone, Write a Loglines for the story and get green light for both of them to go for production.

My friends came up with 2 words Rock and Flower, we wrote these 2 words down and start to see how to expand these Idea, at the beginning we try to see what connection could be between these 2. We want to show love between them but we change the story to something more serious as we are getting some guides and feedback along the way.

Our tutor asked us to work with iteration , create one version each and put them all together and discuss the best points and we did. we were strengthen the first one by doing this every time.

Logline: The last chance of life tries to exist, however the evil power makes it harder and harder.

The first attempt was showing love between a flower and a rock and Characters have got face expression.

The second was characters without having face and showing harness and difficulties between them instead of love. Seed needs to break the rock, fight for life, get to the surface to become a flower and enjoy its existence but as soon as its doing so a playful child stepped on it and smashed it.

The third one was when we though about our intension, tone and message. what do we want viewers to get from our story and also write our Longline and go back and forth from story to Logline and vice versa to match everything together and strengthen the story.

With the help and feedbacks from our tutor we changes some bits and piecces . To emphasis hardships, we change the background from a jungle to a dystopian era, replace a child’s feet with a bulldozer, replacing a natural stone with a tough man made concrete. She said the bulldozer could be intentionally in that environment but a child playing is unintentionally and could be something sweet, she said these 2 are completely different, it depends on us which tone we want to pick, we chose the former.

The story starts when seed (last chance of life) grows inside the bottle where was protected by a late person (skeleton). The seed grows, get to the concrete, hit it to break it and go through for survival. when it gets up, it gets destroy by a bulldozer(robot). I think It doesn’t need to be in future or dystopia time as we are all witness of destruction and deforestation right now.

We have got some feedbacks about the sounds. We were told that the underground and overground sounds should be different . At the begginng The sound of hitting was very sharp which we made it dull to show that it is happening underground. The second changes was when plant cracks into the surface, the sound of the environment should be sharper and clear to show that is happening over ground. The third changes was the sound of the bulldozer which was steady, we fade it in and out after.

Unfortunately we forgot to add credit and title for screening. After we had problems with adjusting and resizing the tittle and credit into the animation with premier pro.

If I want to do it again I would be more attentive to details and spend more time on the project.
